Welcome to our Eco Page!     Eco-Schools

 We meet every Thursday lunchtime!

All information about what we are doing can be found on the green Eco Schools board outside the year 4 classrooms.

For further information about what Eco Schools involves please visit the website www.eco-schools.org.uk

What next?

In the new-year we will be completing a whole school audit about our use of electricity and water, what we recycle and the food we eat.

We will be installing our brand new weather station in March and have our very own weather page on the school website. This will also link us up to the very exciting Globe Project  www.globe.gov

Energy!

Our Eco School Council produced an assembly for the whole school on Monday 2nd March. This is what their assembly was about;

'The Eco School council is like the School Council but we make important decisions about the school and its environment. We meet every Thursday to discuss things like litter, recycling, wildlife and water.'

The ABFS ECO-CODE!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Christmas Card recycling Scheme in association with the Woodland Trust. We managed to collect over 12 black bin bags of Christmas card in total which is fantastic! The cards have been sent to the Woodland Trust who will now recycle them and, in return, plant trees to replace the ones used to create the cards.

Samia Smith

We have been around the school to see what we are good at doing and this is what we found;

  • We are good at recycling and we have the SCUT squad who do litter picking.
  • We have lots of places for wildlife to eat, play and sleep.
  • We have nice areas where we can grow plants.
  • We try hard to encourage people to walk to school.
  • We all try to eat healthy snacks and lunches.

BUT there is one thing that we do that is not good and that’s waste energy!

The Energy Challenge!

Here are the first steps of our challenge;

  • Each class has a light and lap top monitor responsible for switching them off when they are not needed.
  • The teachers turn down the heating before opening the windows.
  • Close the doors that lead to outside.
  • All plugs switched off at the end of the day.
  • Timer plug for charging laptops during school time only.
